"2024 - Faces of the Year" was a calendar project by thomasfalkner.art. The faces in this calendar had no names. They are not alive. They belong to Mannequins. Their home is the shopping world, their creators are designers and advertising experts. They are, if you like, an expression of the professional fantasies of consumerism and the capitalist spirit of business.
For me, that was not the point. My main experience was that the more the image was reduced, the more human the artificial figures became. The reduction tempts us to associations. When we see the basic element and the basic contours of a face, we look for
personality, soul, mood, character, communication possibilities. Such an experience could, I hope, create important points of contact in our everyday lives, which are far too often characterised by rejection, polarisation, reservations and fear.
